Fifteen Months

It's been a little while...

What happened was this:

• I got busy


• I got stressed


• I got busier


• I decided that I needed to stop something I was doing


• I regretfully decided that something was going to have to be my stories


• I stopped writing


• I stopped posting


• I disappeared (hopefully after saying goodbye)


• I got things somewhat sorted


• I wrote a few stories, and send them to a much reduced set of friends


• I got feedback


• I realised I really like feedback, good or bad


• I decided that I could possibly find some middle ground, and spend some time with the stories


• I completely rebuilt my website at ASSTR, using CSS. Thank all the Gods that I used a database in the first place


• I simplified things


• I uploaded a couple of things

Panties or Knickers?

I got some feedback from a friend today. He's sent me nearly 100 sets of comments. Some nice, some not.

Something he said though, got me thinking. I can't think of a better way to find out...

Doesn't the word "panties" make this a sexier story "knickers"? ;-)

Does it? Opinions here. Come on, I dare ya.



For context, I live in New Zealand. Knickers is the common term here; something we inherited from the British. Increasing American influence has affected that along with everything else though, and it could be that the next generation have a different opinion. Time will tell.

In my stories, though, I'm generally aware of my primarily North American audience, and use the appropriate terms (I draw the line at spelling).

Recently I posted this story with a deliberately Kiwi (that's a New Zealander) vocabulary. I even provided a glossary for the less travelled and terminally introverted. :-) That's what caused the response in the first place, though my friend was talking about a different story just now.

I'm really interested in what you think.

What else? I have read Anne Rice's Lasher before, so I gave up on it, and moved on to something else. It's connected, in a way.

I'm a big fan of vampires (well, reading about them), but a few years ago I picked up a book in the library about werewolves. It was good. Sexy, exciting, inevitably a little violent. Then I found there was a sequel. I read that too. Great stuff. There is a point here. I'm getting to it.

If you're interested, these books were The Passion and The Promise, and they were written by Donna Boyd. So what's the connection? It just so happens that Donna Boyd is Anne Rice's sister!

Anyway, right now I'm reading another of her books, involving neither vampires nor werewolves so far... The Awakening. I'll let you know how it goes.

Meat and Veg
